GLASGOW’S Dan Thompson is relishing the prospect of swapping Beverly Hills for Bonnie Scotland.

The new Allied Vehicles Tigers youngster produced a fabulous display to top score for Great Britain in their win over USA in California.

Now Thompson, 20, is eager to shine for his new club in the Cab Direct Championship.

On his paid 12 performance for GB, he said: “It was really enjoyable.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity I had there. I was glad I did it in the end. I did watch the live stream from the year before and I wasn’t sure whether it was worth going.

“The track did look quite difficult. But it was a great time, great weather.

“It’s always a privilege putting the GB kevlars on and riding for my country. I’m grateful for Rob Painter and Vicky Blackwell giving me all the opportunities they have done over the last two years or so.

“It’s good to be racing competitively early. I always seem to be a bit of a slow burner at the start of the season, but hopefully that’s a good sign for things to come. I didn’t feel rusty at all, I just fell straight back into it. So I’m looking forward to March time now.”

Thompson is currently working as a delivery driver for Morrisons and admits it’s a big change of scenery after being in the glamorous surroundings of California. It’ll soon be from beaches to Baltic Scotland!

He said: “You don’t realise you’re in the moment when we’re racing in the sun and having fun. Now we’re in cold nights as delivery drivers, but March will soon be here.

“It was cool exploring some places. I think other people went there for a bit of an extended time, and had a bit of a holiday. But I didn’t really do that, just flew for the meeting. Had a little bit of time around exploring California and then straight home to work again.”

Thompson will arrive back in Glasgow for their training camp in a fortnight and he can’t wait to get going.

He continued: “Hopefully I can get some silverware with Glasgow this year. It’s a track I really enjoy and I really like working with all the people there.

“It’s going to be a good year, I’m confident about the team. I think our young boys will be pushing Chris Harris and Kyle Howarth at the top of the team as well.

“I think we’ve all got the ability to put more points on our average. Me, Leon Flint, Ashton Boughen, Max Perry, Freddy Hodder, we’re all still climbing and improving.

“Obviously Kyle's been a well-established heat leader for some time now. I think we’ve got a very strong top end and our reserves are only going to learn more as they gain experience.”
