SHEFFIELD boss Simon Stead admits that hard work behind the scenes is the key to their title defence.

The inspirational Tigers chief believes that the strength of the Owlerton club’s backroom team puts them in pole position to defend the Sports Insure Premiership crown.

The Yorkshire side won their first senior league championship last October, overhauling an 18-point first leg deficit to lift the crown on a pulsating night in South Yorkshire.

A visit to league newcomers Oxford Spires launches the Tru7 Group Tigers’ title defence on March 21 and Stead – who has been a loyal servant to the club as both rider and team manager – says that behind-the-scenes togetherness has been a big part of their recent success.

Stead said: “Everybody at the club is pulling in the same direction and we’re constantly trying to better ourselves and put the Tigers in a stronger position.

“Credit has to go to the promotion because there are so many hours put in behind the scenes and we are fortunate that we’ve got so many good people involved at the club.

“Success helps of course but we’re always trying to move forward and make the club sustainable as well as successful.”
