GLASGOW boss Cami Brown says that winning the league title is the “ultimate goal”.

The Allied Vehicles Tigers take on defending champions Poole in the Cab Direct Championship Grand Final first leg at Ashfield tonight, live on BSN (7.00pm).

Brown is proud of what the club has achieved in recent years but wants the biggest trophy of all.

He said: “Over the past eight years we have won the KO Cup, Pairs twice and had a Championship Riders’ Champion in the period of time. We’ve also reached three other cup finals.

“It’s now about getting over the winning line more often. There is one thing for sure, this Glasgow team is packed with character. That’s what you need to win.

“They dug very deep on Tuesday night to defeat a very good Oxford side in the latter stages.

“Now the boys need to do it again over a Poole side that is mentally equipped to win trophies.

"Winning the league is everything. That’s the ultimate goal. We now need one final push.

“The fans were sensational on Tuesday night. The noise in the final few heats was incredible. It’s magic to get a result for everyone at the club. Now we need another two big performances.”

Home captain Chris Harris says that it’s up to underdogs Glasgow to finally beat defending champions Poole.

He said: “People talk about character and spirit a great deal. Lots of teams boast they have it. But you only really know whether you do when it comes to the crunch.

“On Tuesday night we had the desire to win when it mattered against Oxford.

“But now we have to do it all over again and probably have to find an even higher gear to beat Poole.

“The Pirates are a great club with a great mentality. They’ve already beaten us comfortably in the BSN Final. I’m sure they won’t be complacent but equally they’ll be confident. It’s up to us to prove them wrong.”

Harris has been a revelation since returning for a second stint at Ashfield after, by his standards, a low-key 2018 campaign.

He added: “To win the Championship Pairs at Oxford was a special night. In my mind Tuesday was another great occasion.

“But now we really want to turn it into a great season by winning the Grand Final.

“Poole are the masters of winning trophies. We are definitely the underdogs.

“However, if we can get a decent lead under our belts from the first leg here at Ashfield, then anything is possible down there at their place.

“The boys have shown how much they want to win. Now we’ve all got to show that again.”

Pirates promoter Danny Ford remains confident in his side ahead of the final as they bid for a hat-trick of Championship titles.

He said: “We’ve travelled really well this season, I think even better than our home form has been to be honest.

“We feel wherever we go we can keep the result close away from home and do the business at home.”
