BIRMINGHAM want to avoid ‘guest stress’ by signing gritty Dane Michael Palm Toft.

The Brummies have moved swiftly to bring in MPT as a temporary replacement for captain Steve Worrall.

Palm Toft, who started the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership season with King’s Lynn before losing his place after injury, comes in initially as cover for Worrall, who has been ruled out for a month with illness.

The Dane will make his Brummies debut when they host Sheffield at Perry Barr on Monday, with Tom Brennan taking over as skipper.

Birmingham CEO Nigel Tolley said: “We know we struggle running rider replacement as a team and there are a lot of busy Premiership racenights on the horizon.

“So rather than stressing about guest bookings, as a management team our preference was to sign a temporary replacement for Stevie.

“Michael was someone who I spoke to in general conversation when he visited Perry Barr a few weeks ago and his general approach to his racing is something I like.

“He made a successful return from injury for Scunthorpe the other week and he was really keen to get back into the top league.”
