KING’S LYNN boss Rob Lyon says his side didn’t deserve to lose at Oxford.

Spires battled against the Stars leaving with a home victory of 47-43, which matched their two previous winning scorelines in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership.

The Stars led for most of the first half of the meeting, with the hosts only getting ahead for the first time in Heat 10.

Lyon said: “It was a better performance from us after the last outing at Sheffield last week – we were depleted then and we were depleted tonight, but Ben Cook did an admirable job for us, and it was a better performance.”

Cook guested for the Stars after Benjamin Basso suffered an elbow injury in a crash in Denmark.

Lyon added: “It’s a little bit frustrating that we lost out.

“I didn’t feel we deserved to lose tonight, I thought we should probably have edged it.

“We often say refereeing decisions can turn a match, and it clearly did that tonight.”

A 5-1 from Spires’ Erik Riss and Rohan Tungate in Heat 14 made the scores 44-40, meaning the Stars would have required a maximum in the last race to level scores.

Although Tobiasz Musielak took the win, guest Ben Cook was held firmly at the back by Rohan Tungate and Scott Nicholls.

Stars were left without Niels-Kristian Iversen after a clash with Charles Wright in Heat 12.

Tungate scored 13+1 and Nicholls 10+1, leading the way for the Spires, with Musielak scoring 15+1 for the visitors.

Oxford Spires will hope to continue the wins against Sheffield Tigers away at Owlerton Stadium on 2nd May.

King’s Lynn Stars will be hoping for a comeback against Birmingham on 2nd May at home.
