KING’S LYNN boss Rob Lyon vows to “make a challenge for the top four” in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership after a win against Oxford Spires yesterday.

Each of the seven Stars won at least one race, with an impressive debut from GP rider Jan Kvech who collected nine points, helping the Stars to win 50-40.

The Stars have enjoyed a recent improvement, with an all-round team performance to boost their scores and get out of last place in the Premiership.

Lyon said: “It was a great, solid performance, the same as last time against Sheffield really, and we’re getting a bit of momentum, which is nice.

“We’ve got to keep that going now. We’ve got a lot of home meetings coming up, and they’re going to be important for us to make a challenge for the top four.

“I wouldn’t want to pick anyone out in particular because it was a full team performance from one to seven, but it was good to see Jan Kvech have a good debut, and also for Anders Rowe to get back to some early season form around here.”

Benjamin Basso top scored for the Stars hosts with 10+1 points, and Kvech’s good night racing earned him the OMOLOGATO Rider of the Night award.

The OMOLOGATO Rider of the Night award was brought in at the beginning of the season for each Eurosport televised meeting, with the winner receiving an OMOLOGATO watch as a prize.

Former Stars rider, Maciej Janowski, had a great night back in the UK racing with an impressive 16-point haul for the Spires.

But despite this, many points were lost after the team suffered several mechanical issues.

Spires manager Peter Schroeck said: “I can’t fault the boys for effort, but we had too many machinery problems and that cost us.

“That’s not taking anything away from King’s Lynn, who put in a good night’s racing.”

Spires will be hoping for a comeback against Ipswich Witches next Thursday. Stars next face Birmingham Brummies on Monday.
