GLASGOW chief Gerry Facenna believes the SGP2 qualifier awarded to the club will be a “fascinating meeting”.

The FIM announced the calendar for 2025 and Ashfield will be the venue for the crucial World Under-21 event on May 24.

It’s the latest international occasion being brought to Glasgow after extensive renovation of the stadium and track since the Facenna family took ownership of the Allied Vehicles Tigers a decade ago.

Facenna said: “We are naturally proud and delighted to have been awarded such an important SGP2 qualifier.

“We will once again be thrilled to work with the FIM after previous successful events held at Ashfield in recent years.

“Since day one when we took over the club, we promised to bring the best possible racing and occasions for our wonderful fans.

“This is going to be a fascinating meeting with the best young riders in the world battling it out.

“Over the past few years the best racing we have ever seen has been Under-21 occasions. The World Under-21 Team semi-final in 2018 was outstanding, as have been the British Under-21 Championships over the previous two years.

“So much hard work has gone into the stadium. This is a massive thank you for our brilliant volunteers and fans who give blood, sweat and tears for the club.”

The SGP2 has provided some of the best excitement on the speedway calendar over the previous two seasons.

British stars and Glasgow riders past and present Tom Brennan and Leon Flint have both competed in the series.

Facenna added: “It’s well documented that the club have a passion for bringing young riders into the sport.

“We hope there will be a British interest in the meeting but, whatever happens, it’s going to be a fabulous occasion.”
