SEVEN-TIMES British Champion Scott Nicholls has underlined the importance of the “awesome” Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund.
The Ben Fund Bonanza takes place on his home track in the Championship – but Nicholls, who has skippered the Cheetahs ever since their hugely successful return to the sport in 2022, is on the sidelines with a long-term shoulder injury after a crash last October.
He said: “I think there’s a lot of riders out there who are not actually aware of how much the Ben Fund put into the sport, what they provide and how much passion they have. It’s a shame because what they do is unbelievable.
“I think the Bonanza is something that every rider should do, maybe not contractual but I think it should be highlighted to them just how important the Ben Fund people are, and how much they do.
“It is awesome what they do, it really is, and I think a lot of riders would be absolutely screwed without it.”
The line-up for the event is set to be the strongest since the Rye House staging of 2010, with four names still to be confirmed. Already announced are Oxford Spires trio Maciej Janowski, Charles Wright and Erik Riss, and three current Grand Prix riders – Fredrik Lindgren, Jason Doyle and Max Fricke.
