RORY SCHLEIN quashed retirement rumours to sign up for Berwick for a third season.
The former British Champion will return to Shielfield Park next year as the captain of the club.
Schlein, 40, had his 2024 cut short after a crash at Scunthorpe saw him sustain a broken scapula and fractured vertebrae.
There had been social media gossip about him hanging up the kevlars but he is delighted to return to the black and gold.
He said: “No question that had it not been for injuries to myself, Bastian Borke and Lewi Kerr we would have been challenging for the play-offs at the very least.
“Jamie Courtney, Steve Dews and Stewart Dickson have put together a very impressive looking seven and I’m really looking forward to skippering the side.
“Everyone, including myself, has the potential to improve. It’s an exciting time for the Bandits.”
