BERWICK’S Rory Schlein admits he expects to keep winning races on his return to British speedway.

The classy Australian makes his debut for the FTS Bandits live on BSN tonight (Saturday) against Redcar in the BSN Series at Shielfield Park.

Schlein, 38, last rode in the second tier winning the title with Poole in late 2021.

But he’s clearly eager to get back to glory. He said: “I’m buzzing, it will be good to get some laps in.

“People have asked me what it’s like to be back and involved. It feels pretty normal. I did it for 20-odd years. I then had a year out but it’s just a normal thing.

“Sometimes you change clubs and you meet some new people. I’ve known Jamie and Scott Courtney and Gary Flint for a long time and obviously Leon from Wolves.

“It’s not like coming to a new club and not knowing anyone. There’s a lot of familiar faces.

“It’s been good already, lots of banter. There’s a lot of good signs for this team this season.

“I expect the same from myself. I don’t think I’ve changed from two years ago.

“After the back injury I was realistic that I wasn't going to be the same rider after that. Now I just want to be competitive. No different now, I’ve had a year out. I think I proved in Australia I was well on the pace.

“Winning races is expected. There’s only one person who puts pressure on me and that’s myself.”
