BERWICK co-owner Scott Courtney wants his side to finish “strongly” after a cursed season of injuries.

The FTS Bandits begin their swansong week of the campaign at fellow strugglers Plymouth tonight, live on BSN.

Both teams are aiming to avoid the wooden spoon in the Cab Direct Championship.

The Gladiators have two points but race four times this week, including Saturday’s return at Shielfield Park, with the Bandits on four points and also visiting Scunthorpe on Friday.

Courtney said: “We pretty much have to go out on a high. We’ve got to dig in and give the fans a battling team for the last three meetings.

“It’s been such a tough season for injuries again but we’ll do our best to finish strongly.

“At the bottom of the table is definitely not where we want to be. But it’s the reality of the position we find ourselves in.

“The most positive light we can give the fans is that we are already preparing for next season. We are getting our teeth into getting everything right that didn’t go right this year.

“The only way to bounce back from the past couple of seasons is accept that luck is something you can’t do anything about.

“We don’t complain about that, we just crack on. We know ourselves that the sport is dangerous and you can put all the best laid plans together yet before you know it you can be back to the drawing board. That has happened so many times for us.

“But luck works both ways. Hopefully next year will bring us a bit more good luck.”

Justin Sedgmen and Joe Thompson make guest appearances for the injury-hit home side, who also operate rider replacement for Dan Gilkes, whilst Luke Killeen replaces the injured Connor Coles for the Bandits.
