TAI WOFFINDEN fears his season could be over after the horror crash in the British Grand Prix.

The three-time World Champion sustained a broken hand after the spectacular incident at the Principality Stadium on Saturday night.

Woffy, 33, was hoping to have surgery on the injury today (Monday) but doesn’t think he will race again this season.

That’s a huge blow to his World Championship hopes and Sheffield’s Sports Insure Premiership title dream.

The Tigers go to Peterborough tonight in a crucial clash, live on BSN, and need to operate rider replacement.

Woffinden said: “I know how long it takes, it is a minimum of four weeks so I won’t be at the next round In Denmark and it looks like the season is over but, if it is at all possible, I will try to get back for the last round at Torun on September 30, who knows.

“I was planning a big end to the season but now that won’t happen but I hope that I’m first on the operating table on Monday morning.”

Sheffield co-promoter Damien Bates said: “It was obviously a pretty nasty crash for Tai and he came down pretty hard. We hope to have some news in the next few days, but he’ll definitely be missing on Monday.

“It just seems our luck at the minute that just when we think we’ve got a full 1-7 sorted we’re dealt another blow.

“But we’ll pull together and our first focus is on Monday where we hope to put in a better showing at Peterborough this time around.”

Peterborough will be bidding for a hat-trick of home wins as they continue to finish the season with a bright flourish.

Panthers captain Chris Harris said: “Everyone is battling hard for their team-mate, and that’s all you can ask for – battling to the bitter end.

“I’m sure Monday night will be another tough one against Sheffield, and they will want to keep in form ahead of the play-offs, but we’ll have another go and hopefully get another win.”
