POOLE boss Danny Ford won’t believe the hype about Oxford until trophies are won!

The Wessex Marine Pirates are embarking on a busy August as they bid to take control of the Cab Direct Championship table.

The defending league champs will step up that bid at Edinburgh tonight, live on BSN.

Promoter Ford refuses to get caught up about hat-trick title talk. He said: “There’s a lot of hype about Oxford and they are top of the league. But we’ll see what happens come the end of the month. Most of our fixtures are in August with eight meetings to come, five at home and three away.

“It doesn’t bother us to be honest. We’ll do our thing and come the end of the season we’ll see who lifts the trophies. It might well be Oxford, they are a formidable team.

“It’s not a bad thing to be under the radar. I think we were last year as well. We didn’t finish top and everyone was bigging up Leicester and we picked up form at the end.

“It’s alright having the great form now but you need that when it comes to the Play-Offs.

“We still haven’t fully hit our stride yet. We just need that consistency with home fixtures which we will be getting in August. Then we want to take that momentum into the away meetings.”

Edinburgh’s season has been plagued by injury and suffered the blow last night of losing Kye Thomson with a mystery illness.

Boss Alex Harkess said: “Poole are coming with a reputation, and people will look at it and say they are probably favourites. But if our three heat leaders perform how they did last week, for me it will be very, very close. And if we can get our reserves scoring then I’m hopeful. If the track was similar to last Friday, I’d be very happy.

“I never look at us being underdogs at home, never ever. If we do what we are supposed to do we will be OK.”
