POOLE boss Danny Ford admits he is “biding time” before finalising their temporary No.7 for next season.
The Wessex Marine Pirates have announced seven riders who will bid to defend their historic treble in 2025.
However, red-hot prospect William Cairns is currently not old enough to start the season at Wimborne Road.
Cairns is 15 and will turn 16 at the end of June, so he will join the side from then, on an 18-month deal.
Therefore the Pirates need to sign a short-term deal for a rider to start the season.
Ford told the Daily Echo: “We were obviously hoping to have it all finalised before Christmas, to be honest, but we're just biding our time a little bit.
“We have offered a contract to a rider. They're just working out their logistics to see if it's possible for them. But we should have news on that very soon.
“And it’s only in the past couple of seasons where teams announce riders so early, before you'd sometimes find out maybe the week leading up to press day.
“So, while we are mindful and keen to get the final rider signed up, we're in no massive rush because effectively every other team place is filled and so we've kind of got time on our side a little bit.”
