POOLE were “fresh on the bike” in taking a huge victory over Workington.

The 53-37 win has stretched their advantage at the top of the Cab Direct Championship to four points.

Tom Brennan scored a 14+1 paid maximum for the Pirates, who have found their success in the northern tour following a victory at Glasgow the previous evening.

Brennan said: “The whole team clicked perfectly, the sun was out the whole meeting, so all in all, it was a good day.

“It’s been a good tour. Having a busy weekend is always good.

“You are fresh on the bike and the mind’s ready, and we might be a long way from home right now but the journey back is certainly going to be a lot easier.”

Brennan wasn’t the only one on form, Richard Lawson scored 12+1 for the team and was unbeaten after a 5-1 reverse in the opening race.

With six visitors winning at least one race, Vinnie Foord also delivered two paid wins in his 6+2 score.

Craig Cook rode well for the Comets despite the loss, scoring 10+1 from six rides.

However, the loss did mark the Comets’ first home defeat in the league.

Comets boss, James Denham, said: “The last two days have been disappointing, to not pick up any points at all, and it makes the play-offs a bit tough, but it’s still do-able.

“We’ve still got Redcar home and away next week, and Berwick, so we’ve got to give everything in those meetings and hope the teams behind us slip up.

“We just need to regroup next week and start again.”

Workington Comets next face Redcar Bears away at ECCO Arena on Friday.

Poole Pirates will be hoping to stay strong in their next meeting at home at Wimborne Road against Glasgow on Wednesday.
