BERWICK’S popular young Dane Bastian Borke has escaped serious injury following a spectacular crash on Saturday.

The winter signing from Edinburgh was hurled into the air and landed awkwardly having been struck from behind by former team-mate Paco Castagna.

After walking back to the pits following the incident the 20-year-old needed medical treatment for severe pain in his lower back and pelvic area.

He was taken by ambulance to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital at Cramlington where, after a nine-hour wait, doctors were able to confirm that there were no breaks or fractures.

After being released Borke, whose all-action racing style has quickly made him a fans’ favourite at Shielfield Park, said: “All good, no breaks, it looks like I have stretched a muscle or something.

“So a couple of days to relax and we will be sweet.”

With No.1 Lewis Kerr already sidelined the threat of Borke joining him took some of the gloss off Berwick’s fourth successive victory this season.

Now they will hope that he is available for their next meeting – the trip to Glasgow in the BSN Series qualifier on Friday night.
