QUIZ king Phil Morris has usually known the right answers and is now ready to take the Premiership into a new era.

Ex-rider, manager and successful Welsh businessman Morris will be the top-flight’s first independent supremo with a burning ambition to make major changes in the way the sport is run.

He said: “I have my own way of doing things – some people will like me for it and others won’t.

“I always seem to have been in the right place at the right time – and fortunately I have usually been successful in whatever I have turned my hand to.”

Morris, 47, won a small fortune as a TV quiz show contestant, appearing on Eggheads, Supermarket Sweep, Are You Smarter than a 10 Year Old and Chris Tarrant’s The Colour of Money, where he pocketed a record £68,000 jackpot.

He used his winnings, more than six figures, to buy a sandwich-making business and doubled the turnover before selling at a profit!

Now he wants to change the face of the sport, admitting: “I’ve seen some events and incidents over the last few years that I believe we can improve on a lot.

“Our fans deserve the best and everything I do will be with entertainment, integrity and transparency at the forefront.”

Morris, who made his racing debut for Reading six days after his 16th birthday, won two league titles during a 20 year racing career and then took Birmingham to the top of the table before losing to Poole in the Grand Final in 2013.

British Speedway Promoters Limited director Chris Louis said: “We want to improve the product and put British speedway back at the top of the tree. Phil can help us do that.”
