CEO Phil Morris is hailing the “golden generation” of British speedway’s most power-packed line-up of world champions this CENTURY.

The most glittering array of stars assembled in the UK for the sport’s official ROWE Motor Oil Premiership press day at the National Speedway Stadium on Wednesday.

This season sees the full-time return to the top flight of Britain’s most successful rider ever, three-times world champion Tai Woffinden.

But there are FOURTEEN world champions and 39 gold medal winners in total gracing the Premiership.

That includes individual world champs Woffinden, Jason Doyle and Chris Holder plus world team champs Dan Bewley, Maciej Janowski, Jack Holder, Emil Sayfutdinov, Niels-Kristian Iversen and Max Fricke.

CEO Morris said: “This will be the most exciting ROWE Motor Oil Premiership this century. It truly is the golden generation.

“There hasn’t been this amount of world champion talent in our top league for a very long time.

“We are delighted that the world’s top stars are returning in big numbers for British speedway.”

It has been revealed that the sport is also reaching its biggest TV and streaming audience in its history.

Broadcasting partner Eurosport are boasting a huge increase in viewers along with streaming service British Speedway Network.

Woffinden will lead the charge for ROWE Motor Oil Premiership defending champions Sheffield. Meanwhile Ipswich, Belle Vue, King’s Lynn, Leicester, Oxford and Birmingham all boast powerful sides.

Two-time league winner Woffinden admitted: “My targets? World Champion, league champion with Sheffield. That’s always the bar. “The hunger is there. I like winning at everything. I’m not a nice person to be around when I’m losing. That shows I have so many emotions.

“If I get to a point in my career where I’m sitting saying it is what it is, I wouldn’t be riding.”

*The ROWE Motor Oil Premiership is live on UK, Polish and Scandinavian Eurosport on Monday nights from April 29.

Available to stream live via Discovery plus to over 50 countries worldwide.
