POOLE team manager Neil Middleditch picked out the debut of teenage talent William Cairns following their big home win over Glasgow on Wednesday.

The 16-year-old won two races on his way to 8+1 as the Pirates moved five points clear at the top of the Cab Direct Championship with a 57-33 triumph, live on BSN.

But it wasn’t just Cairns’ on-track display that impressed his boss.

“There was a lot of pressure on the young lad’s shoulders, but he’s got a mature head and he rode very well,” Middleditch said.

“When he makes starts he’s very hard to catch, and here’s a lot more to come from that boy for sure.

“It was a brilliant debut for Will and I’m really pleased for him.”

Poole’s next home fixture sees them take on Edinburgh on Wednesday, July 16 (7.30pm).
