JYE ETHERIDGE just wants to stay fit to be a big success again at Berwick.

The gritty Australian has been hit with a plethora of injuries over the past couple of seasons, reducing his scoring power.

But ‘Reggie’, 27, has returned from a winter Down Under determined to help the FTS Bandits bring back some glory to Shielfield Park.

He said: “I’m fit and ready to go. I did a bit of riding in Australia but I didn’t fully commit to everything, I just wanted to have a bit of fun.

“I started last year on-fire but then had a first bend bunching incident and broke my collarbone.

“I want to go as far as I can. I’m racing in Poland with Rawicz this year. I’m not too stressed that I’ve not signed for a top league club in the UK. I want to be out in Poland practicing as much as I can, perform out there and give it a crack.”

Etheridge is part of a cosmopolitan but potential-packed side for 2023. But he knows that success could be down to his middle-order scoring.

He added: “I feel we have a really strong team. With Rory Schlein, Thomas Jorgensen and Leon Flint as a top three, it’s up to me and Jonas Knudsen to really push on and follow them up.

“I think we’ve got a solid top five and two good reserves. I want to get up to be a heat leader. I’ve done that before and there’s no reason if I can stay injury free why I can’t be again.

“The main aim is just to stay fit. That’s really held me back over the past two seasons.”
