BERWICK boss Stewart Dickson admits it’s going to be “tight” in their clashes with Workington.

The Jewson Bandits take on the Comets in the first leg of a weekend double header at Shielfield Park tonight, live on BSN.

The Comets need big points in order to hang on to their place in the top four of the Cab Direct Championship, whilst the Bandits are signing out of 2024 competition and want to remain clear of the wooden spoon.

Dickson’s side again operate rider replacement for injured captain Rory Schlein, with Connor Coles stepping in for Bastian Borke at reserve.

Meanwhile the Comets have Erik Riss guesting for the absent Craig Cook at No.1, and Simon Lambert stands in for Tate Zischke.

Dickson said: “It’s likely to be tight, home and away. We tried hard to find a guest to cover Rory, firstly for both meetings and then for Workington but we were thwarted.

“So it’s now up to the boys to come up with the goods again. They dug deep and battled away against Oxford; Workington are not a dissimilar side in many ways.

“Last week’s Super Heat sent our fans home on a high and with some good memories of the sort of performance I’ve wanted from the Bandits, especially at home, all season. Now I want them to do it again.”

Workington boss James Denham said: “It’s going to be two very tense matches this weekend for us, but we have brought in two fantastic guests in Simon and Erik, who both go really well at Northside and Berwick. They will always give you 100 per cent and more.

“At the end of the day, we just need to get the maximum amount of points available to us now and focus on ourselves.

“It doesn’t matter what other teams around us are doing, it is simply now about getting the most out of our remaining fixtures.”
