NEW captain Danyon Hume believes Berwick are "as strong as anyone" in the Cab Direct Championship.

The Jewson Bandits have a massively-exciting fresh side for the 2025 season.

Hume, 28, is clearly very confident with the spearhead of ex-Grand Prix stars Peter Kildemand and Craig Cook plus a youthful mix, they can go all the way this season in the Cab Direct Championship.

He vowed: “I think the team Stewart Dickson has put together is brilliant. There’s no reason we can’t make the play-offs and go the full way.

“Looking at our one to seven we’re strong as anyone else, if not stronger.

“I think Drew (Kemp) is a brilliant rider, he’s smooth, consistent and you know what you are going to get with him. When he’s half-confident, he can go out and beat anyone.

“Bastian (Borke) is a typical Dane, I absolutely love him. Every Danish rider I’ve ridden with, they are fiery and exciting to watch. That’s what the fans want to see. At the same time, the boy can ride a bike.

“I think Peter and Craig will ride together pretty well. Peter has been at the top of the game for many years.

“Cookie, I’ve always rated him. When I was at Glasgow I spent a lot of time with him.

“I think this group of lads will mingle well. There’s a lot of different characters in there. I genuinely think this year could be the one.”

Hume is also proud to return to Shielfield Park and captain the new-look side.

He added: “I’m quite a positive person and even when things aren’t always going your way, I think you just need to remain focused.

“Some people might need a kick up the a***, some people might need a huge. But you soon get to know those characters.

“To be honest I know the whole team already apart from Peter (Kildemand). But to be able to captain him is an achievement in itself for me.

“I was previously captain at Leicester. It was a different sort of pressure. We had a very good team that year. I think we won near enough everything. I’m really hoping this year we can do the same thing.

“I’m just looking forward to being back there. It’s the first time I’ve stayed at a club in the Championship for successive seasons.

“It’s probably the easiest yes decision to return in my career. The season just finished and Stewart said no matter what your average is we want you back.”
