IPSWICH’S Keynan Rew admits he has a “fire in the belly” to make up for the Premiership heartbreak of last season.

The hot prospect Aussie made an impressive start to his UK career at Foxhall with a KO Cup success and Grand Final defeat.

But now Rew, 20, is determined to go one better with the Witches this time round.

He said: “I think there are a lot of good teams in the Premiership, they all look strong and everyone wants to come back to England.

“It’s definitely going to be a hard season for all the teams. There is that fire in my belly. I feel like I could be a main part of the team and push forward and have a better season, and be an important player when it comes to the end of the year.

“Everyone has secret goals inside of them. I just think I want to learn from my mistakes and improve. Of course I want to be better and push on to help the team.

“Last year I didn’t let myself down but I kind of faded at the end of the season. I look back on that and wasn’t happy about it. Now I want to improve my average in 2024 by a fair bit.

“I really can’t put my finger on why I faded. At times in England last year I was just struggling. I don’t know why but hopefully this year can go a bit more smoothly and a bit more dialled in.

“I think that’s the main thing. Once you are dialled in, things are a lot easier.

“There was a lot to learn last year. I know what I’m in for now. Hopefully I’ll be swinging from the get-go.

“Only two new tracks this year, that’s better than six 12 months ago!”
