SIMON LAMBERT produced an epic performance to lead Scunthorpe to a stunning Championship KO Cup victory over Poole.
The tall Scorpions captain reeled off four straight wins as the Lincolnshire side drew 45-45 on the night and 92-88 on aggregate at Wimborne Road.
It was a second heartbreaking final defeat in Dorset for the Pirates within 10 days after Glasgow sealed the league win on October 11.
Former Poole star Drew Kemp produced the crucial win in Heat 14, holding off Zach Cook, to give the Scorpions their first trophy since winning the league in 2012.
On a heavy track due to the awful weather conditions over the past two days, it was an eventful meeting.
Heat 1 needed two re-runs and it was the perfect start for the Scorpions as they grabbed a vital 5-1 to extend the lead on aggregate to six points.
The home side hit back immediately with their own maximum in Heat 2 but Kemp then delivered a vital win in Heat 4 to keep the scores level on the night.
Lambert produced his next victory in Heat 5 and although Poole fought back with two 4-2s, Lambo and Kemp sealed another crucial maximum in Heat 8.
The Cook brothers put Poole ahead in Heat 9 but that man Lambert with Ryan Douglas reclaimed the lead on the night with another 5-1 in Heat 11.
Finally the Pirates grabbed a 4-2 in Heat 13 to make it 39-39 but when Kyle Newman fell in a fierce opening to Heat 14, Scorpions were suddenly on the verge of glory.
In the re-run Zach Cook battled past Jake Allen but couldn’t catch Kemp and the Scorpions had won the Cup.
