The ATPI Aces star passed Great Britain team-mate Tai Woffinden in a hard-fought final to secure the title at the National Speedway Stadium on Saturday night.

In doing so, Bewley became the first rider since Woffinden himself in 2013-15 to take the national crown on three successive occasions.

Bewley said: “Three in a row is just awesome, and it’s such a cool meeting to come to. It’s one of the biggest meetings of the year for us, so to get three in a row is still surreal.

“Tai has got three in a row so for me to match that is pretty cool. He was in front in the Final and I knew it was going to be difficult to make something happen.

“But I just thought if I could stay on his back wheel and hope a door opens, and a little one did and I got through.

“Everything is coming round, little pieces, and I’m just getting that bit more consistent.”

Woffinden himself had reached the Final courtesy of a sensational last-to-first effort in the semi, whilst former Belle Vue star Tom Brennan completed the rostrum finishers and secured the Wild Card place for the British Grand Prix.

Woffy said: “It’s good to be back and racing in the British Final. Pretty s*** to finish behind Dan but his knowledge of his track was vital in the final.

“He found a bit of drive on the inside and made it work and fair play to him.

“It was great to be back here with a big crowd and a good meeting.”

It’s a further step on the career ladder for Brennan, who is enjoying the best season of his career and will now mix it with the sport’s top stars at the Principality Stadium.

Brennan said: “I had a fantastic night, just a shame I couldn’t go the extra step but I guess that is mainly down to experience.

“My team did fantastic today and thanks to my family and sponsors who have got me here, but obviously I still have a way to go and those boys showed me the way to do it in the Final.

“But definitely we’ll keep working and Cardiff is something very special for British riders, and it is a massive occasion for myself.

“To rock up against the best riders in the world is obviously my dream so for me it is going to be a massive experience and I am going to take this opportunity with both hands.”

Meanwhile Brennan also collected the Nigel Pearson Award, voted by fans for the most entertaining rider, in a poll which also included Worrall, Anders Rowe and Charles Wright.

Former champion Chris Harris was just edged out of the top three whilst Steve Worrall and Adam Ellis missed out in the semi of an unpredictable meeting which saw one of the big favourites, Robert Lambert, finish outside the top six on countback.
