BERWICK boss Stewart Dickson believes "gritty kid" Danyon Hume can bring the fight to his new team.
The FTS Bandits have revealed the battling middle-order Brit as a new addition to the 2024 side at Shielfield Park.
Hume has shown his credentials in successful teams in recent years as part of Poole’s double-winning glory in 2021 and Ipswich’s Premiership KO Cup victory last season.
Dickson said: “It’s no coincidence that Danyon has been the engine room scorer in winning teams over the past few years.
“The lad has got a great attitude and when I took over at Berwick he was one of the names on my radar.
“He brings so much more to the party than just on track, he has an infectious personality and spirit is so important to getting results.
“In my mind, Danyon is the heart and soul to a side with a strong mentality. He’s also a gritty kid who is never afraid to get stuck in and has a wonderful never-say-die attitude.”
Hume joins the Bandits alongside top two big hitters Rory Schlein and Lewis Kerr who were revealed a fortnight ago.
It’s going to be a new-look black and gold side at Shielfield Park and Dickson has challenged Hume to push for a third heat leader position.
He added: “Any side that wins the league title needs a couple of riders to improve on their average. Danyon is very much in that category.
“With the points limit being reduced, it’s vital that second strings move up a level to fill that all-important third heat leader position.
“Danyon has made steady progress over the years. This is his chance to establish himself as a bigger hitter. He can be a key man for us.
“He can get dialled into Shielfield and become a massive force and hard to beat. That’s what we need from him.
“He’s always got a smile on his face. Now he needs to add a bit more grit to his performances and we’ve got a massive winner on our hands.”
