GLASGOW bosses want another “classic” after being awarded the staging of the British Under-21 Championship final.
The Allied Vehicles Tigers hosted last year’s title which was won by Connor Bailey after a sensational final at Ashfield Stadium.
Covered live on BSN, it was widely-regarded as one of the best meetings of the season as the former Tiger roared from last to first to grab his first-ever major success.
Now Glasgow will stage the Championship again on Sunday, June 2 at 2pm.
Club promoter Alan Dick said: “We are naturally delighted to be staging this prestigious event again in 2024 after what was a fantastic meeting last year. It was a bit of a classic!
“Connor’s final race victory a year ago is still talked about as being one of the best races ever seen at Ashfield, so we are hoping for another similar exciting event.
“When you bring together 16 of the best young British riders it’s always quite a spectacle. It will be great to host so much talent again this season.
“The club owners have invested in the Great Britain set-up for some time now and this is a further extension of the club’s passion for homegrown talent.
“The club have also worked very hard to make Ashfield one of the most exciting tracks in the UK and that was underlined by last year’s brilliant Championship.”
There will be two Tigers in the field with former champion Leon Flint, now a home rider, and Ace Pijper both in contention for the crown.
Dick added: “Two riders in the Glasgow 1-7, Leon Flint and Ace Pijper, have both been seeded directly to the Final which will give the event a local feel to it this year.
“Leon was, of course, Under-21 winner in 2022, but lost his crown to Glasgow asset Connor Bailey last year.”
A second staging of the British Under-21 final continues Glasgow’s long run of big meetings at Ashfield Stadium. Since 2018 that has included four FIM events, three International test matches and the Championship Riders’ title.
