PLYMOUTH have been forced to delay their two opening home fixtures after heavy rainfall hampered track work at The Coliseum.

With the long-term forecast remaining poor, Gladiators promoter Mark Phillips has made the early decision not to run Saturday’s BSN Series fixtures against Poole – which we were due to stream – and the visit of Oxford Cheetahs on April 6.

Phillips and his team have overseen extensive track work over the winter at the tight Devon circuit but recent unprecedented rainfall over recent weeks prompted the early cancellation call.

Phillips said: “The track is currently spongy and needs sunshine to bake the clay base and the sale.

“This weekend we will be taking off the surface on bends two and three and relaying with aggregate to gain a solid base.

“But we still need three days of sunshine to dry the top layers and due to the forecasts I cannot envisage any this week or next in Plymouth.

“So, unfortunately, we need to postpone the meetings against Poole and Oxford.”

It means that there will be no BSN livestream this weekend but our cameras will be at Scunthorpe for the visit of Redcar next Friday (April 5) and Workington’s BSN Series clash with the Scorpions the following afternoon.

And we’ll be working with the Plymouth management to make sure subscribers get their share of action from The Coliseum as the season progresses.
