GREAT BRITAIN’S Dan Bewley believes they have “learned a few things” after breezing into the FIM Speedway of Nations Final.
Defending champions Bewley and Robert Lambert recovered from an opening heat blip to Sweden to comfortably reach the Torun showpiece on Saturday night.
Despite the early setback, Bewley and Lambert looked immaculate thereafter to finish second on the night.
Bewley said: “It was a good night really. The first race wasn’t ideal. Sweden is a good team, and when you throw some points away like that, we knew we were definitely fighting for second.
“That was probably the toughest race, and after that, we knew we couldn’t make any more mistakes. We had to be pretty solid from that point onward.
"It was a tough meeting, and the points were so close. It was only the semi-final, but we got some experience and learned a few things.”
The vital race was Heat 21 where GB defeated closest rivals Latvia. Bewley collected 22 points for GB with Lambert adding 15.
Lambert added: “It was a terrible start for us, I think the track caught us out a little bit. It looked more grippy on the track walk.
“We managed to make some changes. This is the slickest I’ve ever seen Torun.
“Dan is used to racing in Manchester every week and putting it on the fence. It’s great to be racing with him.
“It’s nice to be in the Team GB camp. It’s such a great atmosphere and we’re having a lot of fun.”
