POOLE boss Danny Ford admits they are determined to make up for the hurt of missing out on the Championship and KO Cup.

The Wessex Marine Pirates chief has pledged to reward his fans’ loyalty with success on the track in 2024.

Despite defeat in both the Cab Direct play-off and Knockout Cup finals last season, Ford reports that season ticket sales have increased year-on-year.

It continues a trend stretching back to the Wimborne Road club’s decision to rejoin the second tier of British speedway in 2021 and has fuelled Ford’s determination to reclaim the silverware, he admits, slipped through the net last season.

Ford said: “I am really pleased to see so many supporters sticking by us and showing their loyalty.

“Since we became a Championship team we have seen the number of Poole season ticket holders increase every year and that is so encouraging for us, especially as, by our standards, we had a barren 2023, with just the BSN title won.

“I can’t emphasise how much we value their backing and when we talk to riders we make it clear that we want to win because we believe our fans deserve winning sides.

“It hurt us last year allowing the league and cup to get away but I can assure those loyal supporters that the riders we have assembled for 2024 are as determined as I am to get those trophies back in our cabinet.”

The club is opening its track shop between 10am and 2pm this Saturday and Sunday ahead of Monday’s closing date for season ticket applications. Besides season ticket sales, a wide range of club merchandise will also be on sale.

Poole begin the season and their defence of the BSN Series title when Oxford Cheetahs visit on Good Friday (29 March).
