IPSWICH ace Jason Doyle has done a U-turn and ended his six month international retirement!

The 2017 World Champion told Australia boss Mark Lemon that he didn’t want to race for his country after he had been left on the bench for last year’s Speedway of Nations World Final.

Even though he got a gold medal as a member of the three-rider squad, Doyle, 37, didn’t have a ride in the competition and said he was standing down to give younger riders their chance.

But he has now had a change of heart and made himself available for next month’s test match against Poland ahead of July’s five-day World Cup tourney.

Doyle said: “After racing in the Aussie titles back home this winter and recharging the batteries, I’ve had time to reflect on my international commitments.

“A return to the traditional team format in the World Cup now comes around only every three years and I felt that’s just too big an opportunity to miss.”

A delighted Lemon added: “Jason has been a stalwart of Team Australia and his decision to be available for international duties and World Cup selection is a huge boost, especially going into this year’s five-man format.

“I’m pleased that with some time to reflect and after many discussions about what’s best for Jason and the team, we’re seeing him back in an Australian race suit this year.”

Doyle has been named in Australia’s six-rider squad to take on Poland on May 17 along with Premiership rivals Jack Holder (Sheffield), Brady Kurtz (Belle Vue) and Max Fricke (Leicester).
