TOP female racing star Celina Liebmann admits she’s used to people “not taking her seriously”.

The new Workington reserve was given a frosty reception by some fans to her inclusion in the Peter Craven Memorial at Belle Vue on March 18.

German Liebmann, 23, will line-up alongside the biggest names in the world Jason Doyle, Dan Bewley, Maciej Janowski, Robert Lambert and Fredrik Lindgren.

But a minority of fans hit out at her getting a place in the star-studded field.

She said: “I'm used to people not taking me seriously. Sometimes just because of my gender. It's a challenge, I know that.

“But these people will see that I will continue on my way in speedway, no matter what they say or think. I'm happy about everyone who supports me!

“I have proven so many times that women can be successful in speedway. I don't have to prove anything to anyone.

“I love the sport and will do everything I can to keep competing at a high level. Women in speedway are evolving.

“As we know, there is a Women's Speedway Academy and, for the first time, a World Cup for women only.

“So for the first time there will be a woman world champion. So far I am vice world champion in 250cc but we will see what I can achieve this year.”

On a positive note, Liebmann admits this could well be the biggest meeting of her career and is delighted to be able to race against such a glittering field of stars.

She added: “I feel very honoured to have been given a starting place for the Peter Craven memorial.

“When Mark Lemon asked me if I wanted to ride, I was surprised and incredibly enthusiastic. I didn't have to think about it for long. It was clear to me that I would seize this opportunity.

“I've been to Pardubice twice for the Golden Helmet, which is also a very big event with lots of fantastic riders. But I think the Peter Craven Memorial is a race where only the best are racing. So I think it will be a bit better.

“I'm most looking forward to riding on the track in Manchester. It's my absolute favourite track and I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun, no matter what the result is at the end.”
