SCOTT NICHOLLS is fit and raring to go after his recent knee op and last-gasp signing for Birmingham.

The seven-times British Champion was snapped up by the Brummies as a late replacement for injured No.1 Piotr Pawlicki.

Nicholls, 45, will ironically make his debut for the midlands outfit in their Premiership opener at Oxford tonight (Thursday), who he races for in the Cab Direct Championship.

He insists that his place in the top flight is only temporary and not a permanent measure.

Nicholls told BSN: “Last season I didn’t do the Premiership through my own choice and I made that clear.

“It’s nice and flattering that a few clubs wanted to sign me for this season. But I think everyone knows where I’m at and I hope they respect and understand that.

“Obviously Pawlicki’s injury doesn’t seem that serious and hopefully he’ll be back soon.

“I had a few balls in the air to juggle before I could say yes to Birmingham.

“For me it’s great I can get a couple of meetings in early because the Championship doesn’t start until the end of March.

“I’ve not sat on a bike all winter apart from Stene Pijper’s bike at the training camp in Workington.

“But I will say that my time at Birmingham and in the Premiership is only a temporary measure before I get a barrage of questions asking if I’m staying!”
