REDCAR’S Charles Wright believes they must beware of Cab Direct Championship dark horses Birmingham.

The Agilia Bears take on the Brummies in a BSN Series clash at the Ecco Arena, live on BSN.

Wright has made an outstanding start to the season but is wary of a new threat from the midlanders.

He said: “There isn’t an easy opponent in the Championship this season. Lots of teams have been tipped as favourites, including ourselves.

“But not many people have mentioned Birmingham yet they have a really solid look about them.

“They are a real threat at Redcar because they have the likes of Nick Morris and Justin Sedgmen who are really flying. Plus they have Ty Proctor who used to ride for the Bears.

“It’s going to be tough, that’s for sure. But we have also shown we can be a very good side on our home track.”

Erik Riss is out of the clash with illness and Steve Worrall is drafted in as a guest. For the Brummies Zach Cook comes in for James Wright.

Redcar team boss Gavin Parr also insists the Brummies are no “pushovers”.

He added: “People have labelled Birmingham as a “pushover” but I certainly do not see that from looking at their side and they have got some really good riders who ride the Ecco Arena superbly.

“Nick Morris entertained everyone when visiting with Leicester last season and he is a classy rider, Stefan Nielsen is also impressive and they have two four-point reserves, they are not to be taken lightly.

“I believe we will come out on top but it will be another tough battle for us.”
