GLASGOW boss Cami Brown is delighted to see the return of the Scottish Cup.
It was revealed yesterday that the Allied Vehicles Tigers will face Edinburgh in the Scottish Cup for the first time in seven years in their opening fixtures this season in early April.
Brown wants his new-look team to reclaim the trophy for the first time in 12 seasons in the clashes on April 4 (Armadale) and April 11 (Ashfield).
He said: “I’m delighted that the Scottish Cup is back. Glasgow v Edinburgh derbies are always the most special meetings of the season.
“It’s a shame that it’s not run for a while. When I was growing up they were always traditional hard-fought clashes and always meant a great deal to the fans.
“In recent years we have faced Edinburgh in the league and in other competitions so we’ve not had a chance to stage the Scottish Cup.
“Our record in the league and KO Cup has been pretty strong against the Monarchs over the past few years.
“But it’s a rather frustrating fact that we haven’t beaten them in the Scottish Cup since 2013. The last one in 2018 was a thriller, it went down to a run-off which they won at Armadale.
“I think it’s a great way to start the season. I know the fans will be bang up for it.”
Brown is eager for his Tigers side to deliver better results in the MAXICab KO Cup. They will face Workington or Edinburgh in the opener this season.
He added: “Our recent KO Cup record is pretty shocking to be honest. Since winning the KO Cup in 2016, we’ve never really produced a decent result.
“I would really aim for that to change this season. We have done well in the league play-offs, obviously beating Poole over two legs to win the title in 2023.
“But overall our results in a two-legged tie have been disappointing. That has to change.”
