DANNY KING has paid tribute to the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund.

The former British Champion along with Sam Masters will join Jason Doyle in the Ben Fund Bonanza at Cowley on Sunday March 23.

Double winner King, who has the highest points tally of any rider in previous Bonanzas, will be looking to become the first competitor to win the event three times – but he has stressed the overall significance of the event.

The Ipswich and Redcar star received support from the Ben Fund after suffering a broken hand last season.

He said: “I had to have surgery and the Ben Fund helped with that. It doesn’t matter who you are, all riders are eligible for the Ben Fund’s assistance and all riders should be ready to help by riding in the Bonanza.”

Masters added: “It’s good that we have it at Oxford. I always like to do the Bonanza if I can. Last year’s was called off at Workington and I couldn’t do the restaging, and the previous year it was the day before my Testimonial.

“It’s a good way to start the season and the Ben Fund is great for British Speedway.”
