REDCAR captain Charles Wright says his side need to pick up points away from home to bid for the play-offs.
The Bears outgunned Edinburgh in a tight battle at the ECCO Arena on Friday night
Heading into a final heat decider, there were only four points between the sides, which saw Wright and returning Danny King battle against Paco Castagna and Josh Pickering.
Team riding from Charles Wright and Danny King took the victory in that final race with a 5-1, resulting in a 49-41 win for the Bears.
Wright said: “They were close the whole night and we needed just to get a 3-3 in the last one, but I saw Danny over my shoulder in the first bend, so I thought I’d stick to the inside and give Danny the track to do what he wanted.”
This meeting saw the return of King after a hand injury took him out of both the Redcar and Ipswich teams for a few weeks.
Wright added: “We’ve had a couple of losses at home and we need to pick something up on the road.
“People are dropping points now in the table, so there’s still a chance, but we need to get something on the road now.”
The Bears were set in seventh place in the league before meeting the Monarchs, who remain bottom, and now are determined to climb to the top.
Top scorer for the Bears was Wright with 12+1 and King added 10+1.
Edinburgh had the majority of race winners with Castagna collecting 11 points and Pickering adding 10+1.
Monarchs boss John Campbell said: “It’s disappointing having battled so hard to keep the scores close that we could not finish off the job.
“Josh Pickering was disappointed and always feels he can score better, but to be honest there were others we needed more points from.”
Monarchs will be looking for a comeback against Scunthorpe on Friday. Bears next face Oxford on Friday.
