GLASGOW’S Ben Basso admits he promised boss Cami Brown to win a trophy for the club!

The Allied Vehicles Tigers begin a vital month of August meetings against Plymouth in the Cab Direct Championship tonight (Friday), live on BSN.

But Basso, 22, believes that the team can and will get stronger as the business end of the season kicks in.

He said: “When I signed for Glasgow last year I promised Cami Brown that I would help the club to win a trophy.

“I still want that 100 per cent. I can only do so much to make it happen. We will give it everything to try and achieve that.

“I think once we get going we will be a really strong team. At this moment not all of us have had a good night together. So we can definitely improve.

“For me consistency is definitely the key for speedway. The only issue I had was that my consistency was a little bit too low. So it was important for me to get myself scoring up in both leagues and I’ve managed to do that.

“I’ve been involved in the Play-Offs for every season since I came to the UK in 2021 and 2022. I feel that Poole and Glasgow are the strongest sides.”

Plymouth have been forced to make changes with both Dan Gilkes and James Pearson racing in the Speedway of Nations 2 in Latvia.

The Gladiators have drafted in Jacob Hook to guest for Pearson and were set to run rider replacement for Gilkes. However they also lost Dan Thompson last night with a broken collarbone.

Brown continued: “It’s a really fascinating clash with the Gladiators.

“They are bottom of the league and have only won one meeting this season. That is such a strange situation because they are now a damn good side!

“Plymouth need to make up for lost time after so many rained-off meetings and they can still reach the Play-Offs and still be a real threat for the title.

“Any side that boasts the likes of Kyle Howarth, Richie Worrall and Ben Barker as a top three must be taken very seriously.”

GLASGOW: Chris Harris, Marcin Nowak, Benjamin Basso, Claus Vissing, Tom Brennan, Lee Complin, Ace Pijper.

PLYMOUTH: Kyle Howarth, Dan Gilkes R/R, Ben Barker, Dan Thompson (tbc), Richie Worrall, Jacob Hook, Ben Trigger.
