BERWICK’S Danyon Hume says his team “mean business” after smashing Workington on opening night.

The Jewson Bandits crushed the Cumbrians by 56-34 in a powerhouse display at Shielfield Park.

Hume top scored with 12 points as the new-look border side made a hugely impressive start to their campaign.

He said: “It was an enjoyable night both personally and as a team.

“Winning well is a good start to the season and I think we showed tonight that Berwick are a solid team unit and also that we mean business this season.”

Hume led the way but it was also a fabulous home debut for young guns Freddy Hodder and Bastian Borke who were paid for a whopping 21 points between them.

Hodder said: “It was the perfect home debut and now I need to try and keep it going.

“I know there will be a lot of ups and downs this season. It’s tough to move up into the Championship. But I’ll give it everything to produce the points.”
