Belle Vue and Redcar ace Connor Bailey has decided to sit out the rest of the season.

The Brit announced this morning on his Facebook page that he has been signed off with medical exhaustion after yesterday's Ben Fund Bonanza.

"Yesterday at Workington I was signed off medically due to medical exhaustion"

"After extensive consideration over the last couple of weeks, I have reached the regretful decision to sit the rest of the season out of speedway, as I am not in the right headspace"

The 2023 British Under-21 Champion admits that he does not feel his current situation allows him to perform at his peak or safely attack tracks.

The news will come as a big blow to both Belle Vue Aces, who will now search for a new rising star, and an improving Redcar Bears.

Bailey has endured a mixed 2024 season, ironically scoring his highest score (7+2) for Belle Vue in their recent home meeting against league-toppers Ipswich. His last appearance for Redcar Bears however, ended in a pointless score away at Edinburgh.

"This is something that's been building for a while, it has affected my mental focus no end, and reached a stage where I can't keep trying to push through it"

"I can only apologise to my respective teams, fans and sponsors, and wish them all the best as the season continues"
